Soccer training… aaargh!

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and just want to go back to sleep, and sometimes I do. But the alarm keeps going off and, like this morning, I switch it off.

But then my second alarm walks into the room… it's my dad and I can't switch him off. I'd like to pretend to be too tired, but I can't.

Why?

Because my training schedule makes sure I get enough rest and relaxation to allow my body to recover. I know all i'm doing is trying to make excuses.

The other, and most important reason is that when I decided to do everything I could to become a professional footballer I made a commitment; to my dad, my brother, my coaches and to myself.

A commitment to train hard and smart even when I didn't feel like it; to eat well; to make sure I concentrate and focus on whatever I am doing; to keep ahead of my homeschooling education.

Commitment was the first word I learnt as part of my 'word-a-day' education and I made sure I knew exactly what it meant. Without commitment it's really easy to make excuses and give up on your dreams and I never want to do that.

To make sure I always know what my commitments are, I have a contract which is signed by dad and by me. The contract is pinned to a board on my bedroom wall so I can see it every day.

This contract and reaching my goals are what keep me going even when I feel like aaargh!
