Soccer training has always been something I look forward to, it’s the waking up in the morning that I really used to hate. Until, a few weeks ago, when my dad set me a project to find the best way of waking up happy and refreshed.
The first thing I already knew was that my body needs plenty of rest and relaxation to recover properly. So i’ve decided to get to bed earlier. The problem has always been in waking up by myself without an alarm clock or someone waking me up. This always leaves me feeling stressed and miserable.
As I was looking into my ‘new project’ I came across some interesting stuff. I learnt that we sleep in cycles of about an hour and a half. I also learnt about the power of sunlight and how it can make us feel happy and more energetic.
I started to go to sleep with the curtains open and found that I woke up by myself without any alarms going off. When I wake up now I feel full of energy, happy and ready for soccer training; working harder and enjoying it more.
What’s happened is that instead of waking up suddenly to the noise of an alarm clock, my body had a chance to come out of a sleep cycle as it gradually got brighter. The sun woke me up naturally.
I found out quite a bit about the power of sunlight and how it helps keep you in a good mood, gives you more energy, more focus and be more alert. So try sleeping with your curtains open and see how it makes you feel in the morning.
