Asian soccer star, London -  Lots of kids have a dream of playing professional football, or soccer, as our American cousins call it. But how many really have what it takes to go all the way and fulfil their dream of becoming an Asian soccer star, playing in one of the professional football leagues?

As far as talent goes, there is no doubt that the British Asian community harbours a wealth of footballing talent. The challenge is in overcoming and navigating around all the obstacles that are put in the way of talented young Asian soccer stars.

Feedback from academy coaches is that when faced with a limited number of places, the safe bet is to recruit non-Asian players; unless of course you have a Ronaldo or Rooney in the making.

Is World Cup 2010 Living up to the Hype

Asian soccer star, London – Is world cup 2010 living up to all the build-up and hype we have been exposed to over the past few months? This is a question that is getting varied answers but the overall majority say NO!

The teams are not playing to the expectations we all have of thrilling contests between nations from all round the globe. May be it’s early days and teams are being a little over cautious about going forward and being caught in the counter attacks.

But, and it’s a massive but, the world has been waiting for this football extravaganza for 4 long years and the teams are made of the best professional football players a nation has to offer.

We as paying fans, whether at the stadiums watching live games or paying for the privilege of watching the matches on TV screens at home or in pubs and clubs around the country need to be compensated for our commitment by players and teams with an equal amount of commitment. [Read more...]

Soccer Skills Training

Soccer skills! We need to work  on developing your soccer skills and technical ability.

That’s what’s being drummed into me at the moment.

I’ve been working hard on my fitness, awareness, agility and pace. But working on developing my soccer skills is what I enjoy the most.

I can spend hours in the garden working with the ball, keeping it as close as possible to my feet with balance while perfecting my Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Cruyff. [Read more...]
