Rest, relaxation and recovery

Spending all day in bed yesterday has given me a chance to think about my dream to become an Asian soccer star playing professional soccer.

Things have been so busy, with soccer training, home education and loads of weddings, that I came really close to burn out.

I’m only 13 years old and getting the rest, relaxation and recovery has helped me both physically and mentally. I feel a lot less stressed and able to think a lot clearly.

I know that I will always get the best help, advise and gentle nudge in the right direction to make the right decisions, but at the end of the day, I have to live with the decisions I make. [Read more...]

Has soccer training made me sick?

Sometimes I get sick of soccer training, but I know I have to carry on, especially if I want to become an Asian soccer star playing professional soccer.

But over the past few days I feel that my training is actually made me sick. I feel tired, out of energy and have a splitting headache.

And before you say it, no it’s not swine flu! I don’t have a high temperature, which according to the new nhs pandamic flu helpline, is one of the symptoms. [Read more...]

What’s Asian Soccer Star got to do with basketball?

Really what has Asian soccer star got to do with basketball?

I was wondering that myself until it was explained to me.

I love soccer but I also love to play other ball games like basketball, tennis and even cricket; and i’m pretty good at them too. But after soccer, I really, really love basketball and thought that playing basketball might interfere with my soccer training.

I also thought that I might get distracted from achieving my dream of becoming an Asian soccer star and playing professional soccer. But here’s the really cool thing.

Basketball helps with my soccer. I found out that if you keep doing the same training day after day your body gets used to it and after a while you don’t get much benefit. So you have to push your body further and further. [Read more...]

Soccer training just got harder

Anyone serious about becoming an Asian soccer star better get ready for a long, hot summer… because that’s exactly what they’re in for and soccer training is going to get harder.

While all my friends will be enjoying the holidays i’ll be getting on with my soccer training and it just got harder. The sun is hot and the ground is starting to dry up which is tough on the feet.

But the worst thing is the dehydration.

Making sure I drink enough fluids is on top of my list. Sports drinks are best because they replenish the salts and minerals I lose through sweating, Where I was drinking one bottle in the past, i’m going through two in no time at all. [Read more...]

Soccer Training Wake-up Call

Soccer training has always been something I look forward to, it’s the waking up in the morning that I really used to hate. Until, a few weeks ago, when my dad set me a project to find the best way of waking up happy and refreshed.

The first thing I already knew was that my body needs plenty of rest and relaxation to recover properly. So i’ve decided to get to bed earlier. The problem has always been in waking up by myself without an alarm clock or someone waking me up. This always leaves me feeling stressed and miserable.

As I was looking into my ‘new project’ I came across some interesting stuff. I learnt that we sleep in cycles of about an hour and a half. [Read more...]

Soccer training… aaargh!

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and just want to go back to sleep, and sometimes I do. But the alarm keeps going off and, like this morning, I switch it off.

But then my second alarm walks into the room… it’s my dad and I can’t switch him off. I’d like to pretend to be too tired, but I can’t.

Why?

Because my training schedule makes sure I get enough rest and relaxation to allow my body to recover. I know all i’m doing is trying to make excuses. [Read more...]
